YoSoy 132 demands final debate between candidates - to be moderated by students

"No excuses," they say - "it's our right to be heard"

*Updates below*
The second and final official debate conducted by Mexico's electoral commission is set for this weekend. But YoSoy representatives have asked -- demanded, really -- that all four show up for another one on Tuesday, June 19, to "confront the face of Mexico's youth."

YoSoy proposes to accept questions via the internet (from anyone, but especially young people), during and just before the debate.

It will be interesting to see how the candidates respond. No doubt that López Obrador will agree, and Gabriel Quadri as well. Surely Josefina, too . . . but what about the man who has promised a "new" PRI, one that will listen to everybody?

The campaigns' formal replies to the challenge should begin filtering in soon, and they'll be posted here as they become available.

Jun. 7: PRD candidate López Obrador announced at his morning press conference that he'll gladly participate in the debate. He was particularly confident today, telling reporters that his campaign is "on track" and he expects to win by a comfortable margin on July 1.

Josefina Vázquez Mota and Gabriel Quadri de la Torre also confirmed their participation.

A YoSoy 132 spokesman told Mexico's Milenio network during a morning interview that Enrique Peña Nieto will not participate. It's unclear whether that's a final and absolute no, but that's the suggestion at this point (Peña Nieto rejects YoSoy debate demand).
