Decapitation in Cancún, Quintana Roo

We're only nine days into December but the city has already recorded three organized crime executions this month, according to local authorities. The first two were December 5, which I reported earlier this week (http://mexicogulfreporter.blogspot.com/2011/12/two-executed-in-cancun-and-killers-left.html).

In the latest case police found the remains of a a yet unidentified man, estimated age 30-40, in the trunk of an abandoned taxi. The cab was reported stolen yesterday (Dec. 8) about 1:00 p.m., and the vehicle and body were located about 5:00 p.m.

The victim was bound hand and foot, and was dressed -- curiously -- in surgical scrubs. In the clinically grave manner in which Spanish press accounts are so often written, the story says, "se presume que la causa de la muerte es la propia separación de la cabeza del resto del cuerpo" -- "it's presumed that the cause of death is due to the separation of the head from the remainder of the body." That's a safe working conclusion at this point.

A narcomensaje, or executioner's note, was left with the body, but police did not disclose its contents other than to say that it included a Christmas greeting.

Authorities say the Los Zetas cartel dominates narcotics trafficking and organized crime activities in Cancún and much of Quintana Roo state on Mexico's lush Caribbean coast.

Update Apr. 27, 2012: A man whom Cancún police say is a member of Los Pelones has been arrested in this case and has allegedly admitted to the murder. To read more about Los Pelones, enter the name in the search engine and consult the extensive selection.
Los Pelones killer in Cancún also may have been hit man for Los Matazetas: http://mexicogulfreporter.blogspot.mx/2012/04/los-pelones-killer-arrested-in-cancun.html.
